Cape Ascents also offers single pitch sport rock climbing trips in the surrounding Cape Peninsula. Unfortunately no sport climbing* can be done at Table Mountain due to the no-bolting policy of SANParks.

*Sport climbing is a form of rock climbing that relies on permanent anchors fixed to the rock for protection. This is in contrast to traditional climbing where climbers must place removable protection as they climb which is allowed at Table Mountain.

Climbing crags in the Peninsula also offers great climbing on; classic sandstone rock at, for instance, Silver mine, Lakeside Pinnacle and Hell Fire;  granite rock can be found at Paarl Rock and Lion’s Head, among others.

Cape Ascents offers rock climbing in the surrounding Peninsula, but normally only as a day trip. Overnight trips can also be organised for Montagu and Cederberg (both venues are between two and three hours from Cape Town). These sites are well worth exploring if you do have the time. (Overnight trips need to be quoted for and deposits will be required to secure accommodation and transport with outsourced providers.)

Climbing grades vary from very easy to some extreme projects. All the climbing crags offer great climbing on magnificent rock for everyone….from the experienced to the beginner. Climbing is for everyone and nothing beats the feeling of touching rock…the grades come second. Routes are graded to compare the difficulty and with other countries grading systems. The lower the grade the easier the climb.

Anyone can climb and it is not just reserved for the experts to enjoy. Your safety and protection is always our first priority… your guide will ensure your safety making sure you can have fun while climbing.

A reasonable level of fitness is required as there is always a short walk-in and out of the climbing venue (crag). See under need to know what must be brought along on the day. In addition you can bring personal gear if available (e.g. climbing shoes, harness or helmet). If not then do not be concerned… all the gear will be provided. Rental of climbing shoes will be an extra cost on the fee – please specify correct shoe sizes (EU, US or UK).

Climbing in the Peninsula involves some extra travelling and a reasonable travel fee will be added to the day guide fee or you can meet the guide at the venue if you have your own transport.

Any extra costs as agreed beforehand will be added to your invoice upon confirmation of your booking.

Please see booking and cancellation conditions as stated on website.
